Arkham Philippines

Picture
Arkham Philippines is perhaps the only organization dedicated to all things Lovecraftian, in the philippines. Arkham dedicates itself to promoting the art of H.P Lovecraft by providing access to literature, film and other related activities.

Our current thrust is to expose more people who are completely unfamiliar with Lovecraftian art or its inspiration so that they would truly learn the roots of their appreciation.

It is very uncommon for mortals to realize inspirations of stories in Hellboy, X-Files and even Justice League (Animated) to have originated from Lovecraft himself.

Arkham Philippines is an accredited member of the New Worlds Alliance. An umbrella organization of other forms of Philippine fandom.

This website is the pseudo official site of Arkham Philippines and is hosted by TGP.

Lovecraft. The Man, The Myth, The Legend.

Picture
Lovecraft's work is best summarized by themes of cosmic horror, mind shattering reality, arcane creatures and other secrets best left unknown. His work was unappreciated during his time but modern cinema and art has made his inspiration grossly popular despite the anonymity of its source. Lovecraft. Much of modern literature and cinema can trace their success to him. Works by John Carpenter, Stephen King et al. can credit many of their works to not only his themes, but to the Cthulhu Mythos that he has created as well.

Howard Philipps Lovecraft (8/20/1890 - 3/15/1937) was born to a psychotic father but was primarily raised by his mother. He was a child prodigy in poetry, reciting even at the age of 3. Much of Lovecraft's work was directly inspired by his night terrors, and it is perhaps this direct insight into the unconscious and its symbolism that helps to account for their continuing resonance and popularity.

Cthulhu Mythos

Lovecraft initiated a genre amidst the backdrop of The Cthulhu Mythos. Originally coined by August Derleth (another writer and similarly disturbed individual), the mythos merely served as a backdrop to the lore and poetry. The elements of which are based on the cosmic premises noted above.  He and his "co conspirators" (this group included Clark Ashton Smith, Robert E. Howard "Tarzan", Robert Bloch, Frank Belknap Long, and Henry Kuttner.) Frequently shared and modified the elements of this mythos that finally evolved into the enormity that is the Cthulhu Mythos. Creatures and things beyond space and time, good and evil, living and unliving, and something else in between.

The Arkham House Of Horror

Picture
Amidst the din and smog of autos, broken streetlights that cast shadows on corners and alleyways where events of the dubious sort often happen, beyond the sight of denizens of this former squalor and pit of depravity, called Manila, there rests at its fringes a tenement where things beyond the ken of mortals often happen. A place once glorified during its heydays but now, lost in the morass of time, and sometimes, lost in space as well.

The place called. Arkham House, of horror.

Sitting between the towering throngs of buildings made for the 21st century, The Arkham House is a telling reminder of the glory of old Manila. A time when it was once homey, the center of culture, and a place where congregations of all sorts often happen. Now, there is only one sort of congregation that does happen here.

The Theater

Picture
Within the bowels of The Arkham House Of Horror lies a sanctum hidden from the prying eyes of all that dwell on this earth. Tucked away somewhere between the seconds of a clock and the borders of night and day. It is a place that can only be found by a select few entitled with the machinations of those that cannot be named.

This is The Theater.

It is the place where cultists congregate and things that swirl in the shadows can find its way into our realm. Where invocations are in its greatest. Fair or foul. Pure or putrid.

Some say it is an actual place. Others, it is a place in our mind. It matters not as few will ever find its way into its arcane portals.
